There are legends and stories about jumpers gifted by nature. They are glorified in the Olonkho ancient epos. Each type of the northern all-around program is associated with traditional hunting and fishing of indigenous population of the North and has its own beautiful legend. The competitions themselves are as interesting as the northern epic.
This year, sports competitions of the Games of the Peoples of the North include the northern triple jump, tynzyan throwing, laser rifle shooting, dragging a bag of fish and jumping over sledges.
Northern triple jump
One of the legends about the triple national jump tells how a tundra hunter found salvation from a pack of wolves. Having collected all his strength, he immediately jumped with two feet to the first stone in the river, then to the second one and from the second stone to the riverside. This allowed him to stay alive. The northern triple jump is a run jump consisting of three jumps, performed sequentially without stopping, simultaneously pushing off with two legs, and the last landing is carried out on both legs.

Tynzyan Throw
Throwing tynzyan (lasso) on khorey is associated with the northern peoples hunt on deers. Tynzyan's throwing on accuracy is an exam for a reindeer herder's maturity. At competitions, it is thrown on khorey - a long pole used to drive deers. Tynzyan section is arbitrary. At the front end, the tynzian has a two-hole sarmik knuckle. The length of the lasso is no more than 30 meters. Khorey is a wooden stick of 3 m high and 3–5 cm in diameter. Khorey's stand is a pipe of 5–7 cm in diameter and up to 1 m high. Competition platform should be flat. Khorey is installed in the center of the site vertically. The result of the tynzyan's throw is counted if a participant has made a throw, according to the rules, did not stand in the circle line and the khorey was covered with tynzyan (inside the loop).

Jumping over sledges
Since times immemorial jumping over sledges has been an entertainment of reindeer herders. Celebrating the Day of deer, which is traditionally held in tundra in early August, reindeer-breeders compete in jumping over sledges. The main equipment in this type of competition is the sledge. The layouts are made of 2.5–5 cm bars. The sledges are located on a flat surface in a row. Competitions require to arrange 10 sledges in a row. Sledges are placed strictly in a straight line, their position is marked with lime or other material that does not interfere participants. Marks help to indicate if the sledges are shifted or not.

«This year we will also bring joy to residents and guests of the capital with exciting competitions. Last year we gathered hundreds of spectators. I note that each time the number of participants is increasing. It is gratifying that young people aspire after sports. After all, it is sport that tempers character and endurance of a person, especially here in the north»
